Life with Books

Home is . . .

My goal of 52 books for the year is still looming. I had sort of half given up a few weeks back, but I think I can get myself back on track. My book tally for the year is 25, but at this point it should be 32. That seems like a lot to make up, especially since I'm teaching composition this semester and I'll have half a bazillion papers to grade over the course of the semester.

But I have hope.

Today it came in the form of trip to the bookstore, prompted by a gift card and a desire to read Alice's Adventures in Wonderland to Lily. As we browsed through the books, and pulled 95% of them off the shelves, I found two books that had been on my to-read list for a while, The Creative Family and I Love Dirt. So I bought them, and I will most likely have them read in a few days.

Earlier this week I finished The Mission of Motherhood (moms, pick this one up!) and Stephen King's On Writing, which I read before and found to be slightly comical this time around. I'm almost done with Understanding Exposure, which has been extraordinarily helpful with my DSLR and my old film camera, and The Secret Life of Bees, a book that's sadly not really doing it for me.

Do you see why I have hope? By this time next week I could have four more books under my belt. Ta-da!

Now I need some recommendations for a few more fun, easy, and (gasp!) short books to help me get back on track. Got any ideas?

Hey, if you check out my blog, I have a lot of great reviews on some shorter books that literally only took me a couple of hours to read. Some of them are: An Off Year, Light Beneath Ferns, The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner and Saved by the Music.

I'm also doing a book giveaway! You should enter!

Great Blog!

If you haven't yet, you should read Cold Tangerines and Bittersweet by Shauna Niequist - quick reads and short chapters. I love life with books! That "I Love Dirt" one looks really good!

Thanks, AmandaRose. That's helpful.

Christine, don't you know they don't have any Niequist at the library. I need to move to a city with a better library. Grr. I'll let ya know how "I Love Dirt" is. :)

Lindsay,
I have to say I am so impressed with you and other mom's delving into 52 books in one year. Between being a wife, mom, house manager, and sometimes blogger...I literally don't know when I would fit it in. I read for a few minutes before bed but usually fall asleep soon thereafter. What's your secret?

Love the sky in your banner photo, btw.
