Lakeside = Improved Mental Health

If I had made a list of everything I wanted from our lake vacation, I could have crossed off every one.

We swam. We laid in the grass. We ate good food and drank good drink. We spent time with people we love. We boated. I took lots of photos and daydreamed about upcoming work. Adam fished and watched a fair amount of Mets games (on TV). Most importantly, we stared out at Lake Ontario and thought about nothing at all.

I read recently that sitting beside a body of water will improve your mental health. This was just what the doctor ordered.

And somehow we made it through a 22-hour car ride with a one year-old in two days. Yes, we are insane. But I figure with our improved mental health from sitting beside the lake, we could use a little crazy.

Hands down, this was the best vacation I could have ever wished for. It. was. perfect.

Lake Love

We have been in New York for four days, and each of them has been fantastic. We have been to a wedding reception, stared out at the lake, visited with friends, drank a lot of sangria, and ended up in Sackets Harbor for an impromptu overnight stay at Adam's aunt and uncle's house. I am endlessly amazed by the generosity and hospitality of others. I am also amazed and grateful that the weather has been absolutely perfect.

Tomorrow

We're driving 1200 miles in a Honda Civic to upstate New York.

Crazy? Yes.

Happy? Also, yes.

It will be Adam and me on the open road for 20 or so hours. I couldn't think of anything that would make me happier.

Vacation? Yes, please.

Beautiful Winter

It was like seeing snow for the first time. Not because Lily was seeing it for the first time, but because I had my camera by my side to capture every inch of the magic. I love winter and I miss the snow and, no, my brain didn't freeze while I was up north. I've always been partial to cold weather.

I mean, look how pretty!

On our trip I was able to push pause, set aside my to-do list, and simply rest. I didn't read much, watched too much TV, drank a lot of wine, and took a ton of photographs. Driving to the airport I told Adam how I felt rejuvenated, whole, like myself. Exactly what I needed.
